After a scoreless fourth inning, the Panthers got even in the top of the fifth when Cade Lawitzke doubled to score Ryan Lux. But the Prospects answered in the bottom of the fifth when catcher Brian Donnelly, of Huntington, hit a triple and scored when Alec Acri hit a line-drive single.

The Panthers threatened to score again in the seventh, when Lawitzke’s triple put the tying run 90 feet from home plate. But Wasson remained composed, according to the coaches, striking out Naidus for the second out.

The lead seemed in jeopardy when the Panthers’ Garret Navarra hit a line drive to left field. But shortstop Tyler Manger, of Lindenhurst, dived to catch the ball and end the game.

After their victory, the Prospects were awarded the championship banner. For more, go to liprospects.com.
