Ruff day at the village pool

Dogs and their humans close out the summer with a splash

About 70 people and their four-legged friends attended the second annual Dog Pool Party on Sept. 6 at the Valley Stream Pool in Village Hall.

With the pool set to close, owners and their dogs soaked in the final drops of summer as they hit the water or just lounged poolside with their pets. About 60 dogs took part in the pool party and organizers said it was roughly a 50 percent increase in attendance from last year’s inaugural event.

“We have heard nothing but great things about the event,” President of Friends of Valley Stream Dog Park Richard Infield said. “Everyone had a great time.”

While some dogs were eager to get into the pool, others were a little more timid about jumping in.

“As a pool party, it’s different because it’s not in the dog park and dogs have a lot of fun,” Infield said. “Some dogs don’t like to get in the water, but some just want to get in the water and stay there. People are often very surprised by how their dogs react. It’s a wonderful event each year because people find out more about their dogs in a strange place.”
