School's in session in the Merricks
Theresa Press/Herald Life
Friendships began and were renewed as children went to their first day of classes.

Children in Merrick and North Merrick donned their favorite outfits, packed backpacks with supplies and lunches, said goodbye to their parents for six or more hours and left home for the first day of a new school year on Tuesday.

Students in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will return to their studies on Sept. 9.

The Herald Life was there to catch the action as parents and buses brought children to the front of entrance of Levy-Lakeside Elementary School on Babylon Road in Merrick.
