Thoroughly Modern Millie
Plaza Theatrical Productions brings the popular Roaring Twenties musical to Bellmore, when the Lynbrook-based theater company stages the appealing show. Set in the early 1920s, during the days of flappers, speak-easy joints, and prohibition, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the tale of a young woman, played by Collete Campbell, of Rockville Centre, who ventures to New York City from a small town filled with dreams and desires. It’s a zany musical, with frisky flappers, a dashing leading man, and a dragon-lady villainess, that will have everyone dancing the Charleston and humming along to the award-winning tunes.
Sunday, Nov. 2, 2 p.m. $28, $20 seniors and students. The Show Place at the Bellmore Movies, 222 Pettit Ave., Bellmore. (516) 599-6870 or www.plazatheatrical.com.

‘Otherwise Known as Sheila The Great’
udy Blume’s classic book comes alive on stage in this lively, poignant musical production. Sheila Tubman, otherwise known as Sheila the Great, comes of age in this action-packed version of Blume’s beloved story. For Sheila, not only is being a 10-year old kid a pain, but having an older, wiser sister is really a nuisance. Sheila stumbles from one life crisis to another. First, it’s a dog living near the house and Sheila can’t stand dogs. Then, it’s swimming lessons and Sheila hates the water. This production inspires audiences of all ages as they share in Sheila’s journey as she learns that the rights of passage can pass right by without too much bother.
Sunday, Nov. 2, 3 p.m. $25, $15 students and children. Madison Theatre, Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. (516) 323-4444 or www.madisontheatreny.org.
