Town to repave three south Merrick streets

South Merrick’s Bay Drive, Harbor Road and Valerie Court are set to get face-lifts next year, when the Town of Hempstead plans to repave the streets.

A contractor, which the town has not yet picked, will pour new asphalt and construct new curb cuts and driveway aprons, according to a town news release. The project, which will take next spring and summer, will cost about $400,000, the town estimated.

“Once completed, these roads will be safer for drivers and pedestrians, and they will be a welcomed enhancement to this lovely waterfront neighborhood,” said Town Councilwoman Angie Cullin in the release.

At times while the construction is under way, the streets, and the driveways of houses on them, will be closed to vehicle traffic, a town official said.

“Though the town strives to maintain access at all times on these roads, some disruption of traffic and temporary disuse of driveways cannot be avoided,” the release read. “Areas disturbed by construction will be fully restored upon completion.”
