Kathy Miller, a Merrick resident and manager of North Merrick’s Carefree Racquet Club, is the U.S. Tennis Association Eastern Section’s 2015 “Tennis Woman of the Year.”

The Eastern Section, a White Plains-based nonprofit with 49,000 members, oversees and promotes tennis in New York, northern New Jersey and Greenwich, Conn. Its award recognized Miller’s decades of service to the sport.

In addition to running Carefree, Miller has been a USTA league coordinator for 30 years, sat on the association’s Long Island Region Board for 20 years, and headed the Merrick Police Activity League’s tennis program for 15 years. Some 4,000 Long Islanders have played in USTA leagues she organized.

Miller was honored at the Eastern Section’s Tennis Conference earlier this year at the Renaissance Hotel in White Plains.

“It’s a really nice feeling to be recognized by your peers,” Miller said in USTA news release. “I am honored to receive this award.”
