Tractor-trailer fire in Valley Stream deemed 'suspicious'

Posted

Valley Stream firefighters fought an intense blaze in a tractor-trailer and a mini-bus parked nearby in the Toys "R" Us parking lot on Sunrise Highway on Friday morning, police and fire officials said, and it is being investigated as suspicious fire.

“As of right now, it’s deemed a suspicious fire,” said Valley Stream Fire Chief James Ervolino. “It’s an active crime scene by the police department, so they’re obviously investigating. The fire definitely started on the bus and extended over to the box truck. The box truck was filled with booze. Everybody did a good job. There were no injuries, thank God. We’re in good shape.”

Nassau County police detectives and Fire Marshal investigators are investigating the cause of the fire. Drivers in the tractor-trailer, were found asleep at 8:30 a.m. when the fire was spotted, according to first responders, and were able to flee the vehicle. No one was in the mini-bus.

Police said they expected to have more details as the investigation continues.
