Bellmore girls sell fudge to help Harvey victims

A group of Bellmore girls ranging from elementary to high school in age recently came together to make and sell fudge in order to help victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

Chrissy McGlynn, mother of three of the girls, said that the group of friends started talking about ways that they could help soon after news of the hurricane hit, and they quickly settled on fudge. After cooking roughly eight trays, the girls just needed a safe place to sell their wares. According to McGlynn, the owners of the South Bellmore Deli, where her family is “always in an out,” stepped up and offered to host them.

According to McGlynn, the same group of girls also raised money to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, with a lemonade stand in the past.

After “a huge turnout” at the fudge sale, McGlynn said that the girls raised roughly $350, which was matched 100 percent by the deli, making a grand total of $714 that they sent to aid agencies in Texas.

“They were so overjoyed to sell the fudge and know that they were helping out even one or two people,” McGlynn said.
