Bowling Green gets ready for spring

Students at Bowling Green Elementary School spent their Friday afternoon getting their hands messy and plunging shovels in dirt. It was all part of the school’s bi-annual beautification process.

The Parent Teacher Association and Garden Club worked together with interested students on May 11, planting flowers and setting up decorations to adorn the school’s garden in front of its sign.

Volunteers handed red, white and blue pinwheels to their teachers to place around the garden. Then, they got to digging and planted colorful flowers to get the school ready for Memorial Day. “It’s our way of making the school look pretty,” said Paige Bernhardt, the advisor of the Garden Club.

In addition to the school’s beautification efforts, which have been a part of the Bowling Green community for the past decade, the Garden Club teaches students landscaping, plant and garden maintenance and serves as a “basic botany class” for fourth-grade students.
