Calhoun alumni are Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship winners

Christina and Alyssa Garbarino, both alumni of Calhoun High School in Merrick, have been awarded the Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship for Children of Disabled Service Members.

The scholarship is funded through the after tax proceeds from former President Barrack Obama’s book, “Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to my Daughters,” as well as corporate sponsorships and private donations.

Christina attends Marist College, where she studies Criminal Justice. Alyssa attends Alfred University, where she studies Biomaterial Engineering on the pre-medical track.

Christina is an All Conference Champion on her track team. She is involved in All-County Band, cross-country track and track. She is also a recipient of the Excellent Writing Award.

Alyssa is a recipient of the Rensselaer Medal. She is a member of Calhoun’s National Honor Society, Italian National Honor Society and jazz band. Alyssa is also on the New York Student Advisory Board and is on Alfred University’s Dean’s List.

The Fisher House Foundation administers the Heroes’ Legacy Scholarships for Children of Fallen or Disabled Service Members through Scholarship Managers, a professional scholarship management services organization located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
