After a long battle with dementia, longtime Merrick resident Henrietta “Hetty” Hochberg, daughter of the late Esther and Lewis Solomons, owners of Dawn’s Beauty Salon, died on Feb. 13.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry “Hank” Hochberg, by three years and 12 days, also of Alzheimers.

Herry and her parents, along with her younger brother, Jack, moved to the Merrick Gables in February 1944. Hetty and Hank were only the second couple to be married at the Merrick Jewish Centre, on Nov. 5, 1944.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail Hochberg; son, John L. Hochberg (wife Ellen Karcher); grandchildren, Benjamin Hochberg (wife Nicole Rizzuto), Aviela Hochberg and Lael Hochberg; as well as her brother, Jack Solomons (wife Vanita).

Any donations in her name should be made out to the Alzheimer’s Organization.
