North Bellmore burglar impersonates cop

Police on lookout for supect

A North Bellmore man came home late Friday night to find a burglar in his home, who pretended to be a police officer.

According to Nassau County police, at 1:30 a.m. On Saturday, a 36-year-old-man was returning to his home on Pea Pond Road when he heard noises coming from upstairs, and discovered a man in his bedroom.

The suspect yelled that he was a police officer and displayed “a shield,” police said. After a struggle, the suspect broke free and fled from the home in an unknown direction.

According to police, the suspect is male, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, approximately 160 pounds, in a black jacket with a brown ski cap.

There was no loss of property, but the victim did require hospitalization for face lacerations and a broken arm, police said.
