Police are searching for a man who allegedly menaced two North Bellmore men late Saturday night in an attempted robbery.

According to Nassau County police, at 12:05 a.m., two 19 and 20-year-old men at a Cleveland Street home heard a loud noise outside. When they went to investigate, police said, a man armed with a pocketknife, wearing a black hooded jacket and bandana, approached them and demanded money.

The two men told the suspect that they had nothing, and the man fled southbound on Dewey Avenue, according to police. However, one of the men later found that all four tires on his vehicle had been slashed and his headlight was smashed.

Detectives have asked that anyone with information on the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-233-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
