It was an early Christmas miracle as snow started falling across Nassau County around 10 a.m. on Saturday, and by noon an inch to two inches had already accumulated — just enough snow for Santa to make his landfall to the Freeport Recreation Center by 6 p.m. Families with excited children waited for Santa’s arrival out side of the Rec. Center as snow continued to lightly cover their coats. As the Freeport Police Department’s fire truck turned in to the parking lot of the recreation center, children squealed in delight pointing at the Santa Clause who was waving from the top of the fire truck.

Welcoming Santa Clause to Freeport has become an annual village tradition bringing out everyone from the community to celebrate the holiday season. This year’s events included Santa’s elves, which made balloon animals and painted faces, while other children lined up for their turn to share with Santa their greatest Christmas wish. After meet and greets with Santa, families made their way to the Freeport Recreation’s ice rink to marvel at a fun ice show provided by Freeport ice skaters of all ages.
