A short time ago, in a library nearby, dozens of children gripped blue and red light sabers in preparation for battle. They swarmed the East Meadow Public Library on Oct. 14 as part of the library’s annual Star Wars Reads Day.

Characters from the popular epic space opera — like Chewbacca, Hans Solo and Princess Leia — filled the library’s reception area. Per tradition, the library set up several educational and craft stations for children and adults alike, while screening movies and displaying models of spaceships and droids from the iconic series.
