Federal investigators from the U.S. Postal Service were at a home at Alder Road and Bellmore Avenue on Tuesday morning, where numerous bags were seized.

Matt Modafferi, a spokesman with the USPC Inspector General’s office, confirmed that an investigation was underway, but said he could not comment on the contents of the more than a dozen black bags that were seen being seized from the property.

“Our agents were out at that site today retrieving bags,” Modafferi said. “Because this is the early stages of the investigation, agents are right now reviewing the items that they retrieved.”

No charges have been filed, as of yet, Modafferi said.

Modafferi added that the inspector general’s office investigates “all kinda of allegations of mail theft and mail dumping,” and encouraged anyone who thinks they may be a victim of either crime to reach out to the office at 1-888-USP-SOIG, or file a complaint at www.uspsoig.gov.

A spokeswoman for Nassau County police said that she could not comment on the investigation, as it was under USPC jurisdiction.

In 2017, agents from the USPC inspector general’s office completed 705 official misconduct investigations, resulting in 48 arrests, 29 indictments, 30 convictions, 571 administrative actions and $91,049 in recovered funds, according to the OIG website.
