The Oceanside Fire Department extinguished a house fire and rescued a dog from the burning building on Nov. 15. Oceanside F.D. was alerted to the fire at 292 Perkins Avenue, near Messick Avenue, at 3:25 p.m. The residents were not at home at the time, and the dog, a pitbull, was released to a family friend on the scene. The fire was put out within an hour. The fire started in a rear bedroom and extended to the second floor. The damage to the house was significant. The Nassau County Fire Marshal has determined that the fire was “electrical in origin,” according to Oceanside Fire Chief William Madden.

Island Park Ladder 223 and an ambulance from the Rockville Centre Fire Department also came to the scene.
