Brown lives in Oceanside with his wife, Marian. They have four children and two grandchildren, with a third on the way. Before coming to Oceanside, Brown was a math teacher in New York City and a mathematics chair and assistant to the superintendent in East Meadow. He is a past president of the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents and the Nassau School Business Officials. He has spent 44 years working in education.
