Equipment problems force LIRR to cancel morning trains

Posted

Just one day after snowy conditions caused delays and cancellations throughout the Long Island Rail Road, equipment malfunctions caused the cancellations or delays on six branches of the rail road.

Three westbound trains, the 7:35 a.m. from Port Jefferson, 7:36 a.m. from West Hempstead and 8 a.m. from Port Washington, were cancelled as a result of a switch malfunction. The next trains on each branch will also be delayed by 20-to 30-minutes due to the switch trouble. Trains on the Montauk, Oyster Bay and Ronkonkoma branches are also experiencing 20-to 30-minute delays due to the switch problems.
