A school trip to France has been changed in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris on Nov. 13.

Oceanside schools Superintendent Phyllis Harrington announced at the Nov. 17 Board of Education meeting that a class trip to France in February is canceled for the foreseeable future.

“And after much conversation and negotiation with the organizations who run these trips, we have made the decision at this point,” said Harrington. “First of all we will do everything we can to assure that every parent is protected as far as cancelation insurance.”

Harrington said that the district would choose an alternate location for the trip, most likely Switzerland. “We guarantee it will be a wonderful trip,” she said.

The district is also altering a trip to Spain so that students do not spend the night in Madrid, and will spend more time in other areas. A trip to Italy is unchanged.

“All of this is subject to the day to day world we’re living in and… any new information that we might receive, either from overseas or directly,” said Harrington. “We believe that this is the best option so far.”
