After decades of working in his family’s commercial fishing and wholesale business, Mike Spina decided to launch a retail fish market and sell directly to the public. Captain Mike’s Seafood & Lobster Co. opened on Aug. 1. His family catches fresh seafood daily, and locally whenever possible.

Captain Mike’s sells fresh seafood of all varieties, both raw and expertly prepared. Lobsters can be purchased live or cooked, individually or as part of a meal. While they do offer pre-made meals, most everything is made to order, from a single serving to a large-sized catering tray or platter. You can call ahead or wait for it. Seafood can be picked up and taken out, or delivered. Captain Mike’s will deliver to just about anywhere.

Walk into the store and you’ll find a large selection of the freshest catches, live lobsters, and prepared goods. Cooked entrees such as crabmeat-stuffed sole, salmon or shrimp; or shrimp Oreganata or Francaise, can be taken home for an easy dinner.

Spina takes pride in the fact that his fish market smells fresh and is customer-friendly. “Feel free to ask questions. Our staff is happy to tell you about the most current catches, from where they came, what is in season, the best ways to cook different items, and anything else you might want to know,” he said.

The company website has menus of what is available, both for take-out and for catering. Prices are not listed since seafood is seasonal and market value changes. Ask when ordering, either in person or by phone. Listed are many different salads, appetizers, seafood entrees, party platters, pasta dishes, gourmet wraps, grilled fish, fried seafood, paella, fish kabobs, calamari, soft shell crabs, oysters, crab and lobster cakes, and even grilled vegetables.

A separate lobster menu cites dinners that are priced per person. Clam bakes include steamers, corn on the cob, baked potato, lemon and a whole lobster. The lobster platter for two includes shrimp cocktails, whole or chopped baked clams, and a pint of soup.

Captain Mike’s Lobster & Seafood Co. is open seven days a week. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
