Gala to raise funds for kids, spread altruistic philosophy

The MACHO Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on spreading the message “my actions can help others” to inspire good deeds, will hold its first annual gala fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Coral House in Baldwin.

The family of Scott Epstein, a late New York City schoolteacher and assistant principal, supervisor at Coleman Country Day Camp in Merrick, wrestling promoter and publicist, and resident of Long Beach and Oceanside, who was known to generations of camp children by his nickname, “Macho Man,” founded the MACHO Foundation after he died in a December 2013 car crash. The Foundation is sponsoring dozens of underprivileged children to attend camp this summer, and it aims to expand its sponsorships and start character-building programs in schools, camps and workplaces, according to the Epstein family.

The gala will include “fun, food, drinks, raffles, dancing and more,” according to an event flier. Admission is $75 for those 21 and older, and $50 for those younger than 21. Tickets are available at www.themachofoundation.org, and more information is available by calling (516) 707-8075.
