Unity Party challenged by Voice

For the first time in years, a new coalition will challenge the Unity Party in Island Park. The election will take place on March 18.

This week, the Herald asked mayoral candidates Glenn Ingoglia, of the Voice Party, and Michael McGinty, of the Unity Party, to weigh in on a few issues specific to the village.

1. What specifically will you do to help residents and businesses continue to recover from Sandy?

Glenn Ingoglia: The Village of Island Park will receive up to $52 million in grant funds from CRP and FEMA. As Mayor, I will insure all these funds are paid to contractors who will perform the repairs of our storm drains, streets, bulkheads, etc. in an expeditious manner. I will oversee that these contractors complete the work they were paid to perform. The improvements will repair our streets, increase commerce and mitigate the dangers of future flooding. Moreover, many residents and businesses are in desperate need of help completing their New York Rising applications. Only by doing so will they be able to receive reimbursement and raise or rebuild their homes and shops. As Mayor, I will implement regular workshops assisting residents and businesses in completing their applications. I will also work closely with federal, state and county officials to receive all the help Island Park requires to recover fully from Sandy.
