Invention convention in Oceanside

Over 600 people came out on May 16, to see the Project Extra Invention Convention at the Oceanside Library. The sixth-grade students who participate in Oceanside’s Project Extra program displayed their inventions and the fifth graders created an Inventors’ Hall of Fame. Residents, family members and friends were treated to inventions ranging from magnetic gloves to help you easily pick up small metal objects, to a circuit board game to zip-up scarves to a method for keeping baseball catcher cool during the game.

Angela Abend, the teacher in charge of the Project Extra program even provided the students with a “red carpet” and a custom -designed backdrop for photos.

“Cory Cares”, the non-profit group started by Oceanside student Cory Nichols, set up a table and collected non-perishable food and donations to help Long Island’s food banks.

The Library hosted the event in its continuing effort to provide a community outlet for people and groups in town to help educate and entertain their fellow Oceansiders.
