The Friedberg JCC, located at 15 Neil Court, Oceanside has announced that the board of directors of the Silvian Foundation has awarded the JCC a $50,000 grant for camper scholarships. The funds will benefit children, who were impacted by Superstorm Sandy, from Long Beach, Oceanside and Island Park.

The Slomo and Cindy Silvian Foundation, Inc. was created by the late Cindy Silvian, who were well known their business leadership, their civic mindedness and their philanthropy.

Silvian funded the Slomo and Cindy Silvian Foundation, Inc. with a bequest in her will. The Foundation began making grants in 2008 to organizations that fulfill one or more of the following purposes -- Education, Children’s Welfare, Medical Care, Medical Research and Jewish Philanthropic Endeavors. During its 2012 grant program, the Foundation made approximately 120 grants totaling approximately $1,400,000.

“The Friedberg JCC is honored to have been awarded this donation,” says Beth Fetner, JCC Vice President of Agency Development. “The JCC, while severely impacted by the storm, has made it a priority to help the community recover from this disaster. To be able to help children enjoy a carefree summer while their families rebuild is a blessing.”JCC wins camper grant
