Over 100 Oceansiders attended the Oceanside Kiwanis Club’s 10th Annual Patriotic Readings and barbecue on July 11. Audience members took turns reading from works from American history, including the Declaration of Independence, a letter from Abigail Adams to her husband John; the opening from the Broadway play “Hamilton”; Teddy Roosevelt; Mr. Rogers and many more. The barbecue, donated by Bob and Betsy Transom, attracted Oceansiders of all ages, and was part of the Summer Gazebo Reading series.

The Kiwanis Club, at its Summer Gazebo Readings, collects books to send to American troops all around the world, in conjunction with Operation Paperback.
