Library open Sundays

To the Editor:

As many in the community were aware, the Rockville Centre Public Library Board of Trustees had made the tough, but financially necessary, decision to curtail Sunday services at the library due to strict budgetary constraints required by the tax cap.

We are now pleased to announce that we will open on Sundays from mid-October through May between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m. This is possible because the library was fortunate to receive $45,000 in Bullet Aid sponsored by Sen. Dean Skelos. We would like to thank Senator Skelos for recognizing the importance of Sunday openings to our community, from young families to students to seniors.

“Skelos Sundays” will enable us to continue to provide our community with the programs and services they have come to rely on, whether that be dropping in to check out a book or DVD, attend a concert or lecture, study, or socialize with friends. The library is and will remain a vibrant center of the community. We thank the senator for his recognition and generous support of those services.

We would also like to thank the many community members who were motivated to exercise their civic responsibility by attending board meetings and voicing their opinions. Your support of the library and its offerings is appreciated beyond measure.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the library, and once again thank Senator Skelos for his support and the involved community we serve.
