Great job for mental health

To the Editor:

There is nothing more powerful and awe-inspiring then to be in an auditorium of 32 dedicated organizations, agencies and local providers, who so enthusiastically came together for the benefit of community well being!  I know this, because I so proudly witnessed this on April 20, the day that we, at Project Challenge, hosted a Mental Health & Wellness Community Resource event at the Long Beach Public Library.  An event that touched me beyond words as I, the event coordinator, received an abundance of positive responses and thanks from all those who participated, helped and attended this event in our quest to bring about awareness, support and mental health and wellness resources to our area.  So with this said, I would like to personally thank each and every person who helped to make this special event possible.

With special thanks to our participants: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Bridge Back to Life, Catholic Charities DART Program, Channel Qi Acupuncture, EAC Network, Family & Children’s Association, F.I.S.T.,  Healthspan.US,  Little Stars of Hope, Long Beach AWARE, Long Beach Reach, Inc., Long Island Crisis Center, Long Island Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence, Mental Health Association of Nassau County, NAMI Queens/Nassau, Nassau County Storm Recovery Liaison, Michael Raab, Nassau County Department of Human Services Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities Services, Nassau County Office of the Aging, Nassau Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous, Nassau Mason District MSID Program, Oceanside Counseling, Overeaters Anonymous, Queens-Long Island Counseling Services of FRMH, Rescuer Therapy, St. Joseph’s College, SAGE: Mother’s Recovery, Seafield Center, Serenity Zone, Source Integrative Massage Therapy, South Nassau Communities Hospital, Steven Dodge, The SLATE Project and The Compassionate Friends of RVC.

Special thanks to all the awesome staff at the Long Beach Public Library, the City of Long Beach, the Long Beach Recreation Department, the Long Beach Herald, with special thanks to Herald publisher, Clifford Richner, the Oceanside/Island Park Herald, the Long Island Tribune, as well as each and every person who volunteered their time and heart in helping us to spread the word.  Lastly and most importantly, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Project Challenge President, Robert Wolfson and the entire Project Challenge team for offering to host this event, as your willingness to do so helped to make my dream for this event become an amazing community reality!
