Oceanside senior wins pitching award

Oceanside High School’s Kyle Martin was this season’s recipient of the Nassau County’s Diamond Award. The award is presented to the county’s top pitcher, this season Martin was 7-1 with an earned run average of .98, he also struck out 76 batters in just under 50 innings pitched.

Three All-County and All State selections, three conference MVP awards and an All Long Island selection will be the final awards tally at the end of Martin’s high school baseball career.

In addition to his eye-popping pitching stats Martin was no slouch at the plate either, batting .340 with 6 home runs and 10 stolen bases.

“The thing I loved most about it getting to the point where I was seeing my hard work pay off.” Said Martin, “My dream is to play professional baseball.”

He will continue to work towards his dream in the college ranks. Martin will play for the Fordham Rams next season.
