O’side Firefighter named to new office in FASNY

Life-long Oceanside resident and Oceanside Fire Department member Steven Klein was recently elected as 1st Vice President of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) at the association’s annual convention in Albany. He has served as FASNY’s 2nd Vice President for the past two years.

Klein joined the Oceanside Fire Department in 1965. Steve held many offices in his company, Terrace Hose and Chemical Co. No.3. With the Oceanside Fire Department he served as chief in 1984.

Steve is a past president of the Fire Chiefs’ Council of Nassau County and The Nassau County Firemen’s Association.  He has served on the Nassau County Fire Commission, and is a past chairman of the 2nd Battalion Fire District.

Steve joined FASNY in the late 1960’s and was appointed to the Fire Prevention (now the Fire Prevention and Life Safety) Committee. In 2002, Steve was elected Trustee of the Firemen’s Home and was reelected in 2007 and served until 2012.  During his term on the board, Steve served as Secretary of the Board of Trustees for seven years.  Steve has been a director of the FASNY Foundation since 2003, and has served as president of the board. 

Steve is a father of two and a grandfather of three. His son, Kevin currently serves as an assistant chief in the Oceanside Fire Department. Steve is a graduate of Oceanside Senior High School and SUNY Farmingdale.
