The standoff on Davison Avenue turned tragic when Nassau County police found the dead body of a man who lived at 117 Davison Ave. The man had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police had blocked off most of the street and had been trying to coax the man out of the house since 4 p.m. after they had received a call that the man was suicidal and armed. At around 8 p.m., the SWAT team accompanying the police started breaking into the house. At 10:10 p.m., the police found the man's dead body.

No one else was inside the house. Neighbors say the man was a Vietnam veteran suffering from PTSD.
