Celebrating Library Day in Island Park

Posted

The Island Park Library celebrated Library Day on March 30, which was a day of celebration in which the community was brought together to promote reading and learn about what the facility has to offer.

“I think everyone particularly enjoys a party at the library because they are used to being quiet here and today they do not have to be quiet at all,” Library Director Jessica Koenig said.

The theme for Library Day this year was Mardi Gras, and the library was decorated to match it. Koenig said the library board likes to choose themes that entice people to wear creative costumes. About 500 residents attended this year.

“Once we settle on a theme, the children’s librarian develops crafts for the children that fit in with theme, and we work to come up with refreshments that relate to the theme as well,” Koenig said.

The afternoon’s festivities included cake, crafts, music, dancing and a photo booth. Boy Scouts kicked-off the afternoon by unfurling an American flag and raising it on a flagpole.
