The Friends of Tackapausha group is calling all local dog lovers to the museum, in Seaford, next weekend for a special presentation.

Grateful Greyhounds, a Long Island nonprofit organization, will host a presentation in the community meeting room on April 7 at 7:30 p.m. FOT, which is sponsoring the free program, will also provide light refreshments.

According to FOT leaders, Grateful Greyhounds volunteers are dedicated to educating the public about ex-racing greyhounds and sighthounds, as well as placing them into suitable and loving homes. Lisa Sallie, who remains active and on the organization’s board to this day, founded the group in 1998.

“We are so thrilled to come to Seaford and Tackapausha,” Sallie said. “I am sure the folks who attend the presentation will come away with a wonderful education and genuine affection for greyhounds and sighthounds. "

Representatives from Grateful Greyhounds will speak about their rescue and adoption efforts. They said that they would tell local folks in attendance about the breeds’ unique personality traits, training and socialization, medical concerns and exercise needs.

Attendees will also have the chance to meet several greyhounds. Lorraine Bondi-Goldsmith, the FOT president, said that the Grateful Greyhounds program will be “a wonderful family event.”

“Greyhounds are graceful, affectionate and gentle animals that make wonderful additions to any family,” she said. “The Friends are so appreciative that we can host this presentation.”

The FOT is a nonprofit group that aims to help Nassau County officials by providing environmental education programming and activities at the Tackapausha Museum and Preserve, at 2225 Washington Ave. For more information about the organization, visit www.friendsoftackapausha.org.
