Island Park man charged with sexual abuse, endangering children from Hempstead school where he taught

An Island Park man was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of three children at the school he was teaching at in Hempstead.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, John Joseph Finnegan, 51, of Long Beach Road, allegedly subjected a 10-year-old girl to inappropriate behavior and sexual contact during an after school program at Jackson Annex Elementary School. The investigation found that he subjected two other juvenile girls to inappropriate conduct on previous occasions.

Finnegan is charged with first-degree sexual abuse and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Jan. 25.
