Long Beach Public Library closed temporarily due to storm damage

The Long Beach Public Library is temporarily closed because of damages caused by Tuesday’s storm.

The rain caused ceiling leakage and sheetrock damage, according to Library Board Trustee Warren Vegh.

“We have some engineers coming in and people working on the roof as we speak,” Vegh said, reassuring that the library will re-open as soon as possible.

The announcement was posted on the homepage of the library’s website on Thursday morning and it’s currently unknown how long the library will be closed. The usual events and programs will be rescheduled to later dates.

“Our biggest concern is for the sake of the patrons,” Vegh said.

Despite the damages, Saturday’s Folk-2-Funk Music Festival is still on. The third floor will be closed off and guests will be able to access the staircase to get to the second floor auditorium, where the musicians will perform for the show coordinated by Artists in Partnership, Inc.

“The show must go on,” he said.

Vegh suggested patrons check the library’s website for updates at http://longbeachlibrary.org/.
