Lynbrook rings in holiday season with festive celebration

Posted

Atlantic Avenue was converted into a winter wonderland on Dec. 3, as hundreds of residents participated in Lynbrook’s holiday extravaganza.

The event was highlighted by a visit from Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and Frosty the Snowman and the lighting of the Christmas tree, which is on the corner of Stauderman and Forest avenues. Village Hall was decked out with several decorations and bright Christmas lights, and the domed roof was lit up in red and green.

“It was a great turnout and we had a lot of positive reactions from the children,” said Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach, who attended the event with his family and the village trustees. “Santa and Mrs. Claus did a great job, and every department helped out.”

Santa, Mrs. Claus and Frosty were transported to the event by Lynbrook Fire Department Chief Carl Lengel, who drove a vintage fire truck. The evening included performances by the Lynbrook North Middle School marching band and the West End choir.

Assemblyman Brian Curran and State Sen. Todd Kaminsky were also in attendance, and Rev. Robert Walderman of the Lynbrook Baptist Church addressed the audience. In addition, there were rides for children — including pony rides — as well as vendors serving popcorn, cotton candy and other goodies. Nassau County firefighters also collected signatures for Christmas cards for Operation Wounded Warrior.
