Big day for a group of special LVHS seniors

A bright blue sky illuminated by sunshine was the backdrop for Locust Valley High School seniors on the day of their graduation. Donning traditional green-and-white graduation caps and gowns, they were all smiles as the teenagers were celebrated for their numerous accomplishments.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anna F. Hunderfund addressed the graduates and guests, reminding them of all that the class of 2017 had achieved. The accolades include students becoming AP scholars, earning IB diplomas, becoming National Merit finalists and semifinalists, and more than one in four of the graduates earning Advanced Regents Diplomas with honors. The seniors helped the high school become a New York State Reward School for the sixth consecutive year and a School of Distinction, with every athletic team earning a GPA of 90 or better. As a group, the seniors earned more than $9.5 million in scholarships from colleges, universities and the generosity of more than 40 community organizations.
