Give to the Red Cross to aid Dorian’s victims

Posted

As of Monday, the death toll from Hurricane Dorian — once a Category 5 monster — had reached 44, thousands were missing and an estimated 13,000 homes had been destroyed, according to NBC News. The United Nations was reporting that at least 76,000 people needed urgent aid.
Among the many organizations providing relief is the American Red Cross, which committed an initial $2 million to support Dorian’s victims in the Bahamas and is also helping evacuees arriving in the U.S. by providing food and shelter.
The best way to help is with financial donations, according to the Red Cross, which can be made by going online to www.RedCross.org, calling (800) 733-2767 or texting the word DORIAN to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
The Red Cross provides food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support, recovery planning and other assistance to victims of storms such as Dorian. Additionally, the agency is urging people to donate blood. Dorian canceled nearly 100 Red Cross blood drives, and a blood shortage, particularly in the South, has resulted. The organization urgently needs blood.
Those looking to help can use the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit www.redcrossblood.org or call (800) 733-2767.
