Salisbury, East Meadow celebrate the holidays

What was once a local “Charlie Brown” tree has grown into the towering evergreen that sits in Salisbury at the intersection of Carman Avenue and Lake Lane, now adjacent a giant wooden menorah.

The Community Association of Stewart Avenue and the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce joined together to illuminate both at their 32nd annual holiday lighting on Dec. 7.

Just the day before, the Chamber joined with Council of East Meadow Community Organizations for their 19th annual tree and menorah lighting at the Veterans Memorial Park Town Square.

Santa Claus arrived at both lighting with the East Meadow Fire Department to greet children and hear their Christmas wishes.

In Salisbury, holiday classics were sung by the W.T. Clarke High School Chorus and Jazz Choir as guests weathered the cold with hot cocoa and cookies. At the close of the performance, the W.T. Clarke singers recognized Robin Hall, who was the W.T. Clarke High School vocal director for 25 years before retiring last June.

Before lighting the giant tree, youngsters decorated it with ornaments crafted by students from the Bowling Green Kiwanis Kids, local Girl Scouts troops and W.T. Clarke Builder’s Club.
