After about a month of trying to secure a date for the Covid-19 vaccination, residents and staff at Maple Pointe Assisted Living in Rockville Centre were finally inoculated on Monday. A clinic was set up at the facility by CVS Pharmacy, which administered the vaccine. more

The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in devastating loss around the world, and Rockville Centre has been no exception. Nursing homes and assisted living facilities, which are tasked with taking care of an already vulnerable population, were particularly affected: Maple Pointe Assisted Living of Rockville Centre lost 37 people this year, and held a ceremony outdoors last month to dedicate a rock garden to those who died this year. more

Kara Constantine has been caring for residents at Maple Pointe Assisted Living in Rockville Centre for the past two years, but her job became distinctly more challenging this spring. Despite the physical and mental exhaustion of dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, Constantine, a registered nurse and the center’s program director, has continued to do her job as she always has, and her efforts have not gone unnoticed: She was named Nurse of the Year by the New York State Center for Assisted Living, an industry group supporting long-term-care and assisted-living facilities across the state. more

Workers on the front lines – those who show up daily for jobs where they are potentially exposed to the coronavirus – are being seen as heroes for the work that they do, and many people in the Rockville Centre community are doing more than simply just thanking people for the work they do. more
