Five people were injured Monday night when a Rockville Centre Fire Department ambulance was involved in a three-vehicle collision as it was on its way to another accident.

The ambulance was en route to an auto accident at the intersection of Peninsula Boulevard and Lakeview Avenue at 6:40 p.m. when it collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of Maine and Center avenues.

Among the injured were the crew of the ambulance. None of the injuries were life-threatening, according to Inspector Glenn Quinn of the RVCPD. The victims were brought to hospitals for further treatment.

The intersection of Maine and Center was closed to traffic for more than an hour while the police removed the vehicles from the scene.
