Last week, the Rockville Centre Public Library hosted Long Island author Natalie Harnett, who talked to patrons about her book, “The Hollow Ground.”

Inspired by real-life events in Centralia and Carbondale, where devastating coal mine fires irrevocably changed the lives of residents. The story, the debut novel for Harnett, follows the Howley family as coal mine fires force them to relocated and move in with 11-year-old Brigid’s grandparents.
