Brightening the village

DPW installing new lights throughout RVC

Rockville Centre is getting a little bit brighter as new light posts with LED lights are popping up throughout the village.

Phil Andreas, the superintendent of the Electric Department, said that the new light poles are following the 2013, 2014 and 2015 road programs and other road projects. Recent light pole recipients include Princeton Road, Willets Court, Allen Road, and the now-complete Maple Avenue. These light poles are not part of the road program, as they are paid for by the electric department budget.

When roads are redone, an assessment of the electric infrastructure is done alongside the assessment of the water and sewer systems on the road.

“If infrastructure is in poor or terrible condition, we recommend replacement or sometimes we do only part of the infrastructure,” said Andreas. He added that sometimes the parts of the older light posts are 50 to 60 years old or no longer manufactured.

“We’ll continue to do this where it’s required in conjunction with the road program,” said Andreas.
