County to renovate major intersection

Nassau County has purchased property and filed notices for condemnation in the area of Ocean Avenue, Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre and Lynbrook in support of a Department of Public Works improvement project.

According to Errol Williams, a lawyer with the office of the Nassau County Attorney, the area gets very congested during the rush hours and, as a result, there are often accidents and road rage incidents.

Williams said that the project will improve the traffic flow, which will result in increased safety, reduced congestion and have a positive impact on the environment.

At the Rockville Centre Board of Trustees meeting on Jan. 7, Ultrasonic Car Wash was approved to construct a carwash at 1 Merrick Road, in the area of the proposed renovations.

According to Emilio Susa, the architect working with the car wash, the company has been in contact with the County about the proposed construction.
