Enjoying the tastes of Rockville Centre

On Jan. 23, the Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Parade held its 11th Annual Food and Wine Tasting, giving residents a chance to sample all of Rockville Centre while raising money for many good causes.

The evening included more than 30 local restaurants sampling some of their staple dishes, as well as entertainment from the Hagen School of Irish Dance and local band Jerry and the Newcomers.

The evening was the first fundraiser of the year for the Parade Committee, which donates funds to three charities every year: a local charity, a national charity and an Irish charity.

This year’s charities are The Katie McBride Foundation, a local charity whose primary objective is to raise funds to provide family support services for childhood victims of life-threatening diseases such as leukemia; The Hance Family Foundation, a national charity whose mission is to ensure healthy, happy and safe children through its innovative self-esteem educational program for women and girls known as “Beautiful Me”; and The Dublin Children’s Pilgrimage, an Irish charity that for almost 30 years has allowed approximately 40 children from the Dublin Diocese with special needs to travel to Lourdes where they are joined by thousands of children from around the world for “Children’s Week in Lourdes.”
