According to officials, at approximately 8:30 p.m. a man passed out while driving on Sunrise, between Park Avenue and Morris Avenue. The car left the road and careered down the sidewalk for several hundred feet, striking utility poles, parking meters and a fire hydrant. No pedestrians were hit.

The car stopped in front of the vacant movie theater at 319A Sunrise Highway.

The man, approximately 50 years old, was in cardiac arrest and was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital by Floodlight Rescue Company No. 1, where he was pronounced dead.
