Oppenheimer: This is a topic that is currently under consideration by the board. We are in the process of reviewing the information received by the Village Board at two public hearings. I do not believe that it would be appropriate or ethical to deliberate this topic in this forum as any discussion here without all the parties involved could put the village at risk for legal action.

Glynn: More than one taxi service would create a competitive atmosphere between the businesses that should result in improved customer service, better vehicles being used by the taxi services and more vehicles being made available to our residents. The competition would have no impact on the fares as that is already determined by the village. However, there are legitimate concerns about having more than one taxi service, including logistical issues as to where the second service would stage its operations in the village, the increased threat of traffic congestion at Front Street and the surrounding business district primarily during rush hour train stops and the concern of even more taxi services crowding our business district at night and on weekends.

Grillo: While additional taxi service could promote healthy business competition and benefit our residents, any proposed additional service would still have to prove that a need for such a service actually exists. At the most recent public village board hearings, representatives for both taxi companies aired their positions, however I don't believe enough residents aired their concerns. In addition, despite statistics that were discussed, I am not sure what the impact of such an additional service would have on our downtown, most specifically to what degree would an additional taxi service create additional traffic and congestion. In addition, the proposed location of the additional taxi service needs to be fully explored.
