Glynn: My vision for the future of Rockville Centre is one in which we maintain our small-town feel by continuing to protect the character of our residential neighborhoods while further encouraging a thriving business district. We protect our residential neighborhoods by continuing to improve our residential village infrastructure, keep in place the building code changes of two years ago and by implementing the Neighborhood Watch program. We can assist the business district with the parking field repave/redesign program that will create more spaces for resident commuters and patrons of local business and by looking to fresh ideas such as that proposed by my running mate to extend meter free parking to Saturdays. We certainly cannot return to the failed policies of the past such as the night time metered parking or over-aggressive ticketing.

Grillo: I envision a more vibrant downtown, with thriving business and cultural activities for all of our residents. I would like to upgrade our physical infrastructure by partnering with local business owners, our county and state government partners and to significantly beautify our downtown, including physical upgrades to buildings, lampposts, sidewalks and plantings to make the village more aesthetically pleasing. In addition to upgrading our downtown, our various village entry points should also be substantially upgraded to present the village in a light most favorable to all visitors who enter our community.

Wieman: I see the village continuing to be a great place to live. I’d like to see it be affordable. I’d like to see village government work with the Rockville Centre School District to find a way to keep taxes down, and work with both the school district and Molloy to see if it can institute mandatory service requirements for graduation. The village could benefit from having a large supply of volunteers at its disposal.

4. Many residents complain about teenagers roaming the streets. With summer around the corner, what will you do as a trustee to address the issue?
