6. What do you think is the most pressing issue facing the village and what will you do to combat it?

Oppenheimer: Maintaining and improving the current level of services in a reasonable and cost-efficient manner is very pressing. Making the village attractive and affordable to the next generation is also very important. As a trustee, I have continue to ask the questions that will provide the answers and solutions to these problems. We have to make sure current accounting systems are upgraded to be capable of tracking expenses efficiently, the police force and fire department have up-to-date equipment and training, and the Parks and Recreation Department has good facilities to provide for residents of all ages. The quality of life in Rockville Centre must be maintained and improved as cost efficiently as possible.

Glynn: The most pressing issue is protecting our resident tax and fee payers by controlling the size of the village budget. Prior to my election, Village Board members placed no restraint on the size of any budget increases. I was dogged in seeing that the rate of inflation was utilized as the necessary restraint over the budget and therefore the taxes and fees that are needed to feed that budget. Working with my colleagues from the Concerned Citizens party the first two years and from RVC United these past two years, we have made the difficult budget decisions necessary to restrain the size of the Village Budget, and this year came closer than ever at coming in under the rate of inflation. I am sure as we continue to bring in alternative sources of revenue we will in fact reach my goal of a budget passed within the rate of inflation.
