Here's hoping Hillary runs, and wins

I’m glad Hillary Clinton lost in 2008.

I worked hard for her. I raised money and I traveled to Iowa. I believed in her then.

Now I believe she’s even better prepared than before.

Not only would I like her to become president, I believe that we need her to be president.

Face it. The world has some big problems. ISIS, Iran, much of Africa, North Korea and climate change, to name a few. The U.S., whose economy is in better shape than any other in the world, has a long-term sustainability problem related to income inequality, lack of highly-skilled and medium-skilled workers, college affordability, and roads, bridges and infrastructure that need a massive overhaul.

Hillary Clinton is the only candidate who not only understands foreign and domestic policy, but also has the personal relationships, political skills, government knowledge and experience to get things done in hyper-partisan Washington and the fractured world.

There are many other potential presidential candidates who are also smart, well-intentioned, fluent in policy issues, good at speech-making and on the trail. Only Clinton, however, combines all of these traits with an ability to navigate the mess that is today’s American politics and the truly dangerous minefield that is international relations. You just can’t get things done today in Washington without the personal relationships that are necessary to work across the aisle. Even more important, 14 years after Sept. 11, 2001, we all should realize that the long-term answer to terrorism and jihadists isn’t simply to kill more people, but rather to build coalitions of like-minded people dedicated to peace.

Hillary’s experience and stature give her the ability to win a Democratic primary without falling into the trap of appealing only to the hard left and demonizing the middle right. She knows policy better than anyone, but she also knows how to get things done.
